POKER Q'z Development Team Discusses Elite Pack — From 'Competing on Equal Footing' to the Next Step

Oct 2, 2026, GMT+9

Hello! We're the PR team at CLOViZ Inc.!

On October 5, 2026, a new learning product called Elite Pack will launch on POKER Q'z!

The first part is 'Becoming a Pro at Preflop and Flop.' This one-time purchase is designed for players who understand Lessons Lv3–4 and want to take their strategic thinking to the next level.

Until now, POKER Q'z has provided lessons as a Premium member benefit. Therefore, some of you may wonder, 'Why did you separate this from the lessons?' 'Why do I have to pay extra even though I'm a member?' or 'Is this content necessary for me?'

So this time, we spoke with Abe, who was involved in content production as one of the development team members, about why Elite Pack was created, how it differs from the lessons, and who it is intended for.

Abe describes it as something he wishes he could have given himself a year ago. Here is the thinking behind those words—and behind the team’s work.

1. Abe, who creates POKER Q'z content

— First, please introduce yourself and tell us what you are responsible for at POKER Q'z!

Abe:I'm Abe! I'm a fourth-year student in the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Tokyo, and I've been playing poker for just under three years. I usually play with friends who are studying poker.

In tournaments, I won the U-30 university team competition, and overseas I have experience playing stakes up to 5-10.

At POKER Q'z, I'm in charge of content production and other tasks. While researching poker, I think about what kind of content to include in the app and other materials.

Which hands and situations should we cover so that users can acquire ways of thinking they can use in actual play? Rather than just showing solver results as they are, I try to extract common features and lessons from them and communicate them clearly.

— Was this Elite Pack also created by a team, not just by you alone, Abe?

Abe:Yes! My experience and research were part of the starting point, but we develop the content together, discussing the details as a team.

POKER Q'z has developed its approach to thinking and teaching through its existing lessons. While making use of that foundation, we went deeper into more practical and detailed areas with a different purpose from the lessons.

2. The content he wishes he’d had a year ago

— What kind of person did you have in mind when creating Elite Pack?

Abe:What I imagined most was myself two years ago.

At that time, I could win to some extent at domestic recreational poker venues, and I understood basic preflop and CB strategies. But when I encountered situations I hadn't studied, I often ended up playing by feel in the end.

Even at tables with strong players, I felt I was playing more soundly than those around me. But if you asked whether I could consistently beat the rake in overseas games, I couldn’t confidently say yes.

— So you understood the basics, but it was hard to see what to study next.

Abe:That's right.

If you use GTO Wizard or similar tools, you can see solutions for individual situations. But there is so much information that you have to work out for yourself where to look and which patterns matter.

I myself studied by looking at solvers many times and putting into words the common points I found for each situation. I wanted to create a form where I could learn in order what I wanted to know back then, even without owning a solver. That is the origin of Elite Pack.

3. From memorizing strategies to thinking for yourself

— What is the biggest difference between the lessons so far and Elite Pack?

Abe:The biggest difference is that it goes beyond just memorizing strategies to thinking about the opponent's strategy and building your own judgments.

Lessons Lv0–4 are designed to achieve a large learning effect with strategies that are as simple as possible. They teach you step by step, focusing on common situations and the question 'how should I play in this spot?'

In Elite Pack, you think one level deeper from there.

For example, suppose the opponent checks on the flop. Their range is no longer simply their entire preflop range: it has been narrowed to the hands with which they chose to check.

How does the opponent's hand range change based on their action? Against that range, why do I bet, why do I check? Furthermore, if the actual opponent is using a strategy that deviates from GTO, what should I change?

We aim for you to understand not only the correct action but also the reasons why it is considered correct, and to be able to explain it in your own words.

— So it changes from 'memorization content' to 'thinking content.'

Abe:Yes. In poker, the exact same situation does not come up every time. If you only memorize the answers, it becomes difficult to respond to situations you see for the first time or opponents who do not act according to theory.

If you understand the reasons, you can apply them even in unknown situations: 'If this is the opponent's range, how should I think?' That is the ability I want you to acquire after learning up to Lv4.

Thinking about how the opponent's range changes from a single action

4. Why it was made a separate product from the lessons

— Until now, lessons have been provided as a member benefit. Why did you make this a separate one-time purchase product this time?

Abe:First, I want to say that it is not because the lessons up to Lv4 are incomplete and we made the missing part into a separate product.

The lessons aim to learn from the basics in order and build a foundation for competing on equal footing at domestic recreational poker venues and overseas cash games. Up to Lv4, it is complete as one curriculum.

On the other hand, Elite Pack is content that assumes you remember the content of Lv3–4 and aims to acquire the thinking to become a winning player at the same table. It serves a different audience at a much higher difficulty level, covering less frequent but potentially decisive spots and changes in opponents’ ranges.

Different players will need this material at different stages, so we made it a separate product that they can choose when they are ready.

— Some people may feel, 'Why do I have to pay extra even though I'm a member?'

Abe:We discussed as a team that some people would feel that way.

The existing member benefits will not be reduced. Lessons, practice quizzes, AI analysis, and other features will continue to be expanded as member features.

On top of that, Elite Pack was created as new content with different prerequisite knowledge, themes, and learning methods. For annual Premium members, we have prepared preferential prices, and two articles from Part 1 can be read for free. I hope you will first look at the content and confirm the difference from the lessons.

Since it is a one-time purchase, once purchased, you can read the content even after canceling your Premium membership.

5. Who it suits and who it doesn't

— What kind of people do you want to engage with it?

Abe:People who have become able to win to some extent domestically but want to aim for the ability to win overseas as well.

Another is people who want to be able to explain in their own words 'why that action is correct.' It suits people who want to be able to change their own judgments according to the opponent's strategy, not just know GTO results.

— On the other hand, are there people you do not recommend it to yet?

Abe:For those who have not yet fully understood the content up to Lv4, I recommend learning the lessons first. This content assumes knowledge of Lv3–4.

Also, if your goal is to play poker happily with friends, I think Lessons up to Lv4 are enough. It is also not very suited to people who want to memorize strategies and quickly know only the correct answers.

I think the more ambitious you are and the more you enjoy thinking for yourself, the more you can make use of this content.

— Is it also useful for people who mainly play tournaments?

Abe:The way of thinking about ranges and understanding the reasons for actions can be applied to tournaments as well. However, the content is designed mainly for 100bb cash games and does not directly cover ICM, short stacks, or other tournament-specific situations.

This is a point I want you to know before purchasing.

6. What you can learn in Part 1 — Thinking deeply about preflop and flop

— What can you learn in Part 1, 'Becoming a Pro at Preflop and Flop'?

Abe:We cover spots where you tend to hesitate preflop, such as cold 4bet and 5bet decisions, squeezes, strategy changes due to rake, BB defense, and 3betting from the BB.

On the flop, we take up CB strategies in 2bet pot and 3bet pot, stabbing in position, donk betting from the BB, and call versus fold decisions.

All of these are themes that are hard to handle by simply memorizing range charts. You can learn while thinking about how ranges change depending on the opponent's position and the actions up to that point.

— So Parts 2 and 3 are also planned for the future.

Abe:Yes. Part 2 will focus on turn and river, and Part 3 will mainly cover exploitative play and approaches to playing overseas.

The structure makes it easy to understand if you learn in order, but each part is also made to stand alone. You can start from the theme you need.

— Finally, please say a few words to the readers!

Abe:Elite Pack is content for people who have become able to win at domestic recreational poker venues but want to aim to make well-reasoned decisions and win overseas as well.

Two years ago, I played by feel when I encountered situations I didn't understand. After that, I studied by working with solvers, and this content is a form where you can systematically learn what I learned even without a solver.

I would like people who want to take a step beyond memorizing answers and become able to think for themselves 'why do it that way' to read it.

— Abe, thank you very much for today!
