Action

Basic Definition

In poker, "action" refers to the specific moves a player makes. Examples include betting, calling (matching an opponent's bet), raising (increasing the bet amount), and folding (withdrawing from the hand). These actions are determined by each player's strategy and the situation of their hand.

Specific Situation

  • When the flop is A95 and your hole cards are AK, you might choose to raise because you have a strong top pair.
  • When the flop is T73 and your hand is Q9, it's common to fold if you clearly have a weak hand.

Important Information

  • Each action must be chosen by considering the position (seating position at the table) and the opponent's bet size. It's important to read the situation on the table.
  • Actions greatly influence the flow of the game. In particular, raising or betting can be used to demonstrate your strength to your opponent or as a strategy to make them fold.

Examples of Term Usage

"I completed a one pair on the flop, so I chose to call here."
