Aggressor

★★

Basic Definition

In poker, an "aggressor" refers to the player who most recently made a bet or raise. This player demonstrates the most aggressive stance at the table and typically has a strong range.

Specific Situation

  • If a player raises pre-flop with AdKc, that player becomes the aggressor at that point.
  • If the flop comes Qs7h2d and the player who raised in the previous action continues with a continuation bet, this player maintains their role as the aggressor.

Important Information

  • The aggressor has the right to control the pot, so other players usually play in response to their actions. By assessing the aggressor's position and play style, countermeasures can be taken.
  • Being the aggressor provides a psychological advantage, but repeatedly making reckless bets or raises carries the risk of becoming predictable to your opponent.

Examples of Term Usage

"I raised pre-flop, so I'm the aggressor in this hand. I'll make a continuation bet on the flop."
