Basic Definition

In poker, a bet refers to the action of a player wagering their chips. This action occurs when there are no bets from other players, introducing a new stake in the game and challenging other players to match that amount.

Specific Situation

  • When the first player bets post-flop, the other players must choose to call that amount, raise, or fold.
  • In post-flop situations, if you feel you have a strong hand (e.g., top pair with AdKd), you often bet against your opponent to assert it.

Important Information

  • Betting can be used not only to show the strength of your hand but also to bluff your opponent into folding. It's important to use it appropriately according to your objective.
  • The amount you bet should be set considering the size of the pot and your opponent's playing style. If the amount is too small, it's easy for your opponent to call, and if it's too large, you might be taking unnecessary risks.

Examples of Term Usage

"I bet half the pot on the flop as a semi-bluff."
