Cold call

★★

Basic Definition

A cold call (CC) refers to the action of calling a raise made by another player. This action is taken when you have a hand of considerable strength.

Specific Situation

  • After the UTG made a 3BB open raise preflop, I cold-called from the BTN with AhQs.
  • In a situation where HJ open raises to 7BB, choose to cold call from the SB with 9d9c.

Important Information

  • When you make a cold call, there's a higher chance that players behind you will also call, leading to a multi-way pot, so you must be careful in selecting your hands.
  • When making a cold call against a raise, you need to consider the possibility that other players might re-raise and plan your response accordingly.

Examples of Term Usage

"He cold-called with 5s5d in the CO against an HJ raise, but I wonder how he planned to respond if he got squeezed from the SB?"
