Cold n-bet

★★cold 4-bet, cold 5-bet

Basic Definition

A cold 4-bet or cold 5-bet refers to a situation where a player who has not yet acted preflop makes a 4-bet or 5-bet.

Specific Situation

  • You are in the CO. After UTG opens and HJ 3-bets, making another raise from the CO position is called a cold 4-bet.

Important Information

  • Because multiple players have already shown strength by raising, making a cold 4-bet or cold 5-bet from the side indicates an extremely strong range.
  • There is a significant difference in range strength between a regular 4-bet made after your own open raise and a cold 4-bet made without any prior action.

Examples of Term Usage

"I was on the BTN and was dealt AsAh. After UTG opened and CO 3-bet, my hand was strong enough to make a cold 4-bet."
