Condensed range

★★Capped range

Basic Definition

A condensed range refers to a range of hands with an upper limit on strength. It is characterized by the absence of extremely strong hands like AA or KK.

Specific Situation

  • In a situation where the flop is As8d5d and the opponent has a condensed range, their hand does not include AA, so they cannot have the top set.
  • It is expected that the range of a player who limps in pre-flop is likely a condensed range that does not include strong hands like AdAc or KsKh.

Important Information

  • If you can determine that your opponent has a condensed range, it becomes easier to formulate a strategy because you can attack their weaker range on specific boards.

Examples of Term Usage

"It is reasonable to expect that the range of an opponent making a cold call from the small blind is a condensed range."
