Cutoff

Basic Definition

The cutoff (CO) refers to the position in poker that is immediately before the button (BTN). This position is considered advantageous because the action occurs relatively late in the sequence.

Specific Situation

• When you're sitting in the cutoff and everyone has folded, you have a chance to raise aggressively and steal the blinds.
• When you have a strong hand in the cutoff position, you should make an open raise (the initial raise) while being mindful of the players on the button (BTN) and in the blinds, aiming to leverage your position for strategic play.

Important Information

• The cutoff has a good position, allowing for action with a wide range of hands, but it's important to note that the player on the button (BTN) has an even better position.
• When raising from the cutoff, it's important to consider your opponent's play style and stack size. Be especially cautious if the players on the button or in the blinds are aggressive.
