Dry board

★★★Dry

Basic Definition

A dry board in poker refers to a board (community cards) where the chances of forming a straight, flush, or even a draw are very low. On such boards, players often compete with high cards or pairs.

Specific Situation

  • The flop of Ks7d2c is a dry board with suits scattered and ranks far apart, meaning there are hardly any straight or flush draws.
  • When the flop is Ah8c4s, similarly, there are few draws, and it is expected to be a showdown between mostly completed hands.

Important Information

  • On dry boards, many players tend to bluff less because they can't bluff with a drawing hand.
  • Additionally, when you have a strong hand, it can be difficult to build a large pot because your opponent often doesn't have many draws.

Examples of Term Usage

"I chose to slow play because the flop was a complete dry board, so I wasn't worried about the opponent's draw."
