Equity Realization (EQR)

☆☆Equity Realization, EQR

Basic Definition

Equity Realization (EQR) in poker refers to the measure of how much of your hand's equity (winning probability) you can actually realize. It is defined as EQR = EV / (pot * EQ), and the higher this value, the more valuable the hand.

Specific Situation

  • With a hand of 3s3c and a flop of 2d7d9c, your equity is relatively high, but if your opponent is an aggressive player and you don't have position, it becomes difficult to realize that equity. In other words, the EQR is low.
  • Even with a hand that has low equity, having a strong straight draw or flush draw tends to result in a high EQR (exceeding 100%).

Important Information

  • Equity realization is greatly influenced by position and play style. When you have a good position, it's easier to realize your equity.
  • When the opponent's bet size or aggression is high, you may be forced to fold without fully utilizing your equity. Therefore, it's necessary to play carefully even with a hand that has high equity.

Examples of Term Usage

"This hand has low equity realization, so it might be better to check and see how things develop rather than aggressively raising."
