Basic Definition

An exploit in poker refers to a strategy where you take advantage of an opponent's playing style or habits to gain an advantage. By identifying their mistakes or tendencies and responding optimally, you maximize your expected value.

Specific Situation

• If your opponent is very tight and only plays strong hands, you can exploit this by frequently bluffing. For example, if your opponent folds most of the time pre-flop, you can gain chips by repeatedly raising with a wide range.
• If your opponent tends to be loose and always calls, you can efficiently profit by making larger value bets with strong hands. For example, if your opponent calls with weak hands even on the river, it's effective to make the maximum bet when you have a strong hand.

Important Information

• An exploit strategy requires the ability to accurately observe your opponent's tendencies. Misunderstanding their play style can lead to losses instead.
• Exploits, unlike the theoretical optimal strategy (GTO), are based on the assumption that the opponent will make mistakes, making them particularly effective when there is a skill gap. However, caution is needed as the opponent may change their strategy.
