Flat call

☆☆

Basic Definition

A flat call refers to the act of simply calling a bet or raise from an opponent, even when holding a strong hand that could justify a raise.

Specific Situation

  • When you're on the button and your opponent raises from under the gun, you have AhQh but choose to flat call instead of reraising.
  • You are in the big blind, and the player in the small blind raises. You have KsKd, but you choose to flat call.

Important Information

  • When making a flat call, you need to consider your position, the opponent's bet size, and the strength of your hand. It can often be disadvantageous, especially if you have a poor position.
  • Be cautious, as overusing flat calls can make it difficult to gain sufficient profit with strong hands.

Examples of Term Usage

"I flat-called with QsQd against a hijack raise, but maybe I should have reraised."
