Flush draw

Basic Definition

A flush draw refers to a situation in poker where you need just one more card of the same suit to complete a flush. This term is commonly used during the flop or turn stages.

Specific Situation

  • When the flop is A72 and your hole cards are KJ, you are in a flush draw situation because you only need one more heart to complete a flush.
  • With the turn showing Q85K and your hand holding AT, you're in a flush draw situation, needing just one more diamond card to complete a flush.

Important Information

  • The maximum number of outs for a flush draw is 9 cards. Since there are 13 cards of the same suit, the number of cards you subtract from those in your hand and on the board gives you the outs.
  • When playing a flush draw, it's important to assess the risk and return by considering your position and the opponent's bet size. Especially after the turn, estimating pot odds and implied odds can help you choose profitable actions.

Examples of Term Usage

"On the turn, I had a flush draw and made a semi-bluff."
