Heads-up

★★HU

Basic Definition

Heads-up refers to a situation in poker where only two players are playing. It is used when, in a multi-player game, everyone else has folded and only two players remain, or in tournaments where the game is designed to be played by just two players. It is sometimes abbreviated as "HU."

Specific Situation

Heads-up is the situation in the final stage of the tournament where the last two players compete for the first and second prize money.

In a cash game, when multiple players fold and only the players in the blinds compete for the pot, this situation is also referred to as heads-up.

Important Information

In heads-up play, you may need to play aggressively even if your hand is relatively weaker than usual.

Psychological battles between players become crucial, and the ability to quickly grasp an opponent's tendencies and play style greatly influences the outcome.

Examples of Term Usage

"I've entered heads-up in the tournament, so I'll carefully observe my opponent's bet sizes and analyze their playing style."
