Hijack (HJ)

Basic Definition

In poker, the hijack (HJ) is one of the table positions, located just before the cutoff (CO), which is two positions before the button (BTN).

Specific Situation

• The player in the hijack seat holds and makes an open raise pre-flop. Actions from this position can influence the players in the cutoff and button positions behind them.
• If the player in the hijack position holds and all the players before them have folded, an aggressive raise is effective.

Important Information

• The hijack position is one where it's better to participate with a relatively strong hand, as there are four players behind you.
• To maximize the expected value of your hand, it's important to understand the tendencies of the players behind you, whether they are tight or loose.
