LAG (loose-aggressive)
Basic Definition
A LAG, or loose-aggressive player, plays many hands and plays them aggressively with frequent raises, 3-bets and bluffs. When it is done well, it puts constant pressure on opponents. When it is done badly, it burns chips.
Specific Situation
- A player opens a wide range from late position, 3-bets often, and fires multiple barrels on scary turn and river cards.
- At a tight table, a LAG steals the blinds and small pots again and again.
Important Information
- LAG play needs strong postflop skills. With a wide range, you often play marginal hands in tough spots.
- Against a LAG, you can call down wider and 3-bet more for value. Tight-passive play against them tends to give up too many pots.
- The style is different from a maniac, who raises almost everything with little thought.
Examples of Term Usage
"The LAG on my left keeps 3-betting me, so I need to start 4-betting lighter."
