New York back raise
★☆☆
Basic Definition
In poker, a New York Back Raise refers to a situation where a player who initially chose to call decides to re-raise in response to a raise from a subsequent player.
Specific Situation
- Player A bets 10 points, and Player B calls this 10 points. Then, when Player C raises to 40 points, the action returns to Player B. If B raises again at this point, it is called a New York backraise.
- If there's an aggressive player behind you, you can intentionally make a weak-looking call to provoke a raise, and then confidently execute a New York backraise to increase the pot and maximize your profit.
Important Information
- The New York back raise is powerful against certain opponents, but if you don't assess their playing tendencies, the risk increases.
- If overused, it can make the other person wary, so it's important to choose the right timing.
Examples of Term Usage
"His New York back raises seem to have a lot of premium hands, so I'll fold this hand."
