One Pair
Basic Definition
A one pair is a poker hand consisting of two cards of the same rank. It can be formed on the flop, turn, river, or from the initial hand (hole cards).
Specific Situation
- When your hand is something like
, it is called a "pocket pair," meaning you start the hand with one pair already made.
- If the board shows

and your hand is
, you have one pair. In this case, it is a "top pair," because your pair matches the highest-ranked card on the board.
Important Information
- The strength of a one pair hand varies greatly depending on the rank. For example, among pocket pairs,
is the strongest, while
is weak.
- Even if you make one pair, there is a strong chance your opponent holds a stronger hand, so you should not let your guard down.
