Quads
Basic Definition
In poker, "quads" refers to a hand consisting of four cards of the same rank (four of a kind). It is one of the most powerful hands and a very rare combination.
Specific Situation
- If the flop is 444 and your hole cards are 4A, you have completed quads (four of a kind with fours).
- If the board is QQ777, and your hole cards are QQ, you have quads (four of a kind with Queens).
Important Information
- If Quads are completed using one's own hand, the kicker does not affect the outcome.
- Quads is a very powerful hand, but it's often so strong that it heavily blocks the range of hands your opponent might call with, making it difficult to extract much value.
Examples of Term Usage
"I completed quads on the flop, but chose to slow play so my opponent wouldn't notice."
