Raise

Basic Definition

A raise refers to the action of betting an amount greater than the previous highest bet. In poker, it is used to put pressure on opponents or to increase the pot.

Specific Situation

In pre-flop, it is considered a "raise" when you increase the amount to participate to a figure higher than the big blind (BB). For example, if the BB is 100, you might raise it to 300.

In post-flop play, if your opponent bets 1000 and you raise it to 2000, this is called a "raise." This action aims to either make your opponent fold or increase the pot.

Important Information

A raise can indicate the strength of your hand, but it can also be used as a bluff. Therefore, it's important to carefully consider your opponent's reaction and position.

The raise amount should be set strategically. If it's too small, opponents can call cheaply, and if it's too large, you might take on unnecessary risk.
