Rake cap
Basic Definition
A rake cap refers to the maximum amount of rake, which is the fee collected by the operators in poker. Typically, the rake is calculated as a fixed percentage of the pot, but when a rake cap is set, no amount beyond that cap is collected.
Specific Situation
In a $0.50/$1 No-Limit Hold'em game, if the pot reaches $100 and the rake is set at "5% of the pot" with a "cap of $5," then the rake collected will be up to 5% of the pot, capped at $5. No more will be taken.
For example, even if the pot reaches $500, the rake is fixed at $5 if the rake cap is $5.
Important Information
Since the rake cap directly affects the game's profit margin, setting a low cap is advantageous for players. This is especially important in low-stakes games, where the rake percentage tends to be higher, so caution is needed.
Examples of Term Usage
"In this casino, the rake cap is $2, so it's easy to play even at low stakes."
