Range bet

★★

Basic Definition

A range bet refers to a bet made in poker based on a specific range (the possible range of hands). It is part of a strategy where you bet with a consistent frequency in certain situations, regardless of the strength of your hand. It is mainly used to apply pressure on opponents or to maintain balance.

Specific Situation

Since I 3-bet preflop, I utilize my range and make a range bet of 30% of the pot on the flop.

When you raise from UTG and the BB calls, the flop comes Kd6h3s. Since your range includes more "sets" and "overpairs," you make a range bet to put pressure on your opponent.

Important Information

A range bet relies on the ability to assess how advantageous your entire range is on the board. It's important to use it only when it suits the board.

Adjusting the bet size is key. Range bets are usually made with smaller bets (25-33% of the pot size), but it is necessary to change this depending on the situation.

Examples of Term Usage

"This flop is favorable for my range, so I'll make a range bet to force my opponent's weaker hands to fold."
