Reverse implied odds
Glossary
Reverse implied odds
Basic Definition
Reverse implied odds are odds calculated by considering not only the "implied odds" but also the possibility that your opponent holds a stronger hand than your completed hand.
Specific Situation
When the flop is AK2 and your hand is T8, even if you complete a spade flush on the turn or river, you need to consider reverse implied odds if your opponent might have a nut flush like QJ.
When the flop is 89T and your hand is AJ, you have a straight draw. However, if your opponent holds KJ, drawing a Q would complete a higher straight for them. Therefore, you need to consider reverse implied odds.
Important Information
By understanding reverse implied odds, you can avoid unnecessary calls in dangerous situations. This is especially important when your opponent's hand range is strong.
If you worry too much about this concept, it might limit aggressive play. Balance is key.
Examples of Term Usage
"It's a flush draw, but considering reverse implied odds, I also want to consider folding."
