River

Basic Definition

In poker, the "river" refers to the fifth and final community card dealt. The river is a crucial stage as it represents the last opportunity for players to complete their final hand.

Specific Situation

If the flop is A72, the turn is K, and the river is 2, a player with a spade flush draw will complete a flush on the river.

The player has QJ, and with the board showing T9723, nothing improved on the river, and the straight draw was not completed.

Important Information

Since the river is the final action, the decision to bet, check, or fold is extremely important. It's especially crucial to accurately assess the strength of your completed hand.

At the river, you need to carefully consider the possibility that your opponent has a strong completed hand or is bluffing.

Examples of Term Usage

"I completed a full house on the river, so I reraised my opponent's raise."
