ROI

☆☆Return on Investment

Basic Definition

ROI (Return On Investment) is an indicator that shows the rate of return on investment in poker. Specifically, it represents the profit gained as a percentage of the amount invested (buy-in). It is an important metric used by poker players to evaluate their performance.

Specific Situation

  • If you enter a tournament with a $100 buy-in and win a $400 prize, your ROI would be [(400 - 100) / 100] × 100 = 300%.
  • If you use a total of $500 as a buy-in for a cash game and collect $600, the ROI will be [(600 - 500) / 500] × 100 = 20%.

Important Information

  • ROI is a metric that should be evaluated over the long term. Short-term results are likely to be skewed, so a large number of samples is necessary for it to function as reliable data.
  • The method for calculating ROI and the standard figures differ between tournaments and cash games, so it's important to understand each format accordingly.

Examples of Term Usage

"My ROI has been increasing in recent tournaments, so I might have gotten quite a bit better at poker."
