Basic Definition

In poker, "same" refers to a situation where multiple players have the same hand or combination.

Specific Situation

  • Player A has a hand of AhQh, and Player B has a hand of AsQs. With the board showing AcKd7s4h2c, both players have a pair of Aces, resulting in a tie. Since the kickers are the same, the pot is split.

Important Information

  • If the kickers are the same or the hands themselves are completely identical, the pot will be split (split pot). Not understanding this could lead to incorrect decisions.

Examples of Term Usage

"I ended up with the same hand on the river, so even though my kicker was weak, I won the pot."
