Glossary
Second hit
Basic Definition
A second hit refers to having the second strongest pair against the board.
Specific Situation
- If the flop is K95 and your hand is Q9, it counts as a second pair. In this case, the top pair is a pair of Kings.
- If the flop is J73 and your hand is T7, it counts as a second hit. A top hit would be a pair of Jacks.
Important Information
- A second hit can become a strong hand depending on the opponent's range and actions, but it needs to be played carefully. Especially if the opponent is making strong bets, be wary of a top hit or even stronger hands.
- If you make unnecessary raises or large bets on a second hit, you increase the risk of losing with a weak hand.
Examples of Term Usage
"I made a second pair on the flop, but my opponent bet aggressively, so I folded, wary of a top pair."
