Second nuts

Second nuts

Basic Definition

In poker, the term "second nuts" refers to the second strongest hand possible on the current street. It is the hand just below the "nuts" in strength and often allows for aggressive actions similar to those taken with the nuts.

Specific Situation

  • If the board is KQJT3, having 99 in your hand makes it the second nuts, right after a royal flush (the nuts).

Important Information

  • Depending on the board situation, even the second nuts can be risky. In such cases, you should play cautiously.

Examples of Term Usage

"I completed the second nut straight on the river, but my opponent went all-in, so I folded, wary that they might have the nuts."
