Showdown

Basic Definition

A showdown refers to the moment at the end of a poker round when players reveal their hands to determine which one wins. This usually occurs after all betting rounds have finished and multiple players remain.

Specific Situation

  • After the river action, reveal your hands to determine the winner. For example, if you have AK and your opponent has AQ, and the board is AK732, you win with two pairs.
  • If no one bets and the river ends with a check, the game proceeds to a showdown where all hands are revealed and the winner is determined.

Important Information

  • At showdown, as a general rule, the player who took the last action (bet or raise) reveals their hand first.
  • If you have a hand that can't win, you can fold your cards before the showdown.

Examples of Term Usage

"The action was checked to the river, so it proceeded to showdown as it was."
