Slow roll

★★

Basic Definition

A slow roll in poker refers to the act of deliberately delaying the reveal of a strong winning hand at showdown, causing confusion or false hope for the opponent. This is considered poor etiquette and can worsen the atmosphere of the game, typically resulting in a penalty.

Specific Situation

  • I had KhKc and called my opponent's all-in. The board showed KdKs7d9cTd, and even though I was definitely winning, I pretended to lose and deliberately took my time revealing my hand.
  • When you have the nuts (the strongest hand), you pretend to hesitate and take your time before revealing your hand.

Important Information

  • Slow rolling is considered a breach of etiquette in poker and can especially cause trouble in live games. It is often criticized as an act that shows a lack of respect for other players.
  • Even in casual games among friends, it's important to be careful because joking around can potentially make others uncomfortable.
