Basic Definition

In poker, a stack refers to the total amount of chips a player has on the table. The size of the stack greatly influences strategy and affects betting options.

Specific Situation

• You have a $100 stack, and in a game with $1/$2 blinds, your stack is 50BB.
• If you have a $100 stack and the other player has a $200 stack, the effective stack between you and him will be $100.

Important Information

• The strategy changes depending on the stack size. For example, with a short stack, going all-in or playing aggressively is often required, whereas with a deep stack, post-flop skills become important.
• You need to consider not only your own stack but also your opponent's stack size. In particular, the effective stack is an important measure of the actual playable chip amount.
