A steal refers to the tactic of raising pre-flop to make your opponent fold and win the pot. It mainly involves using your position and the opponent's situation, and can be effective even with a weak hand.

Specific Situation

• When you're on the button and everyone folds to you, with no one yet in the pot, you raise with to try to steal the blinds by making the small blind and big blind fold.
• If the big blind is a tight player and I'm in the cutoff position, I raise with to win the pot.

• In poker, stealing is all about position. It's especially effective when done from late positions like the button or cutoff.
