Third hit

Basic Definition

A third hit in poker refers to the third strongest pair that can be formed by combining the cards on the board with your own hand.

Specific Situation

  • When the flop is Q95, having 85 in your hand is a third pair.
  • When the flop is K82 and your hole cards are 62, it's a third pair.

Important Information

  • The value of a third hit depends on the opponent's participation frequency and board texture. If the opponent's range is strong, the third hit is more likely to be losing, but if the opponent's range is wide, its value increases.

Examples of Term Usage

"I hit a third on the flop, but should I fold because the opponent's bet size is large?"
