Three of a kind

Basic Definition

A three of a kind refers to a poker hand consisting of three cards of the same rank. In terms of hand strength, it is stronger than a one pair or two pair but weaker than a straight or a flush. However, depending on the board, it can be a very powerful hand.

Specific Situation

  • If your hand is 77 and the flop comes 7KT, you have completed a three of a kind.
  • With the board showing 55592 and your hand being AK, the three of a kind is formed on the board.

Important Information

  • Three of a kind is a very strong hand, but depending on the board, it can be beaten by a full house, four of a kind, a straight, or a flush. Therefore, it's important to carefully observe your opponent's actions and the composition of the board.
  • If you have a pair in your hand, the probability of completing a three of a kind on the flop is about 12%.

Examples of Term Usage

"I completed a three of a kind on the flop, but I was cautious because the board on the turn could complete a flush."
