Glossary
Two pair
Basic Definition
Two pair is a poker hand consisting of two different ranks, each with a pair of cards.
Specific Situation
- If your hand is 88 and the board is JJ4, you have a two pair of jacks and eights.
- If your hand is 97 and the board is 97K, you have a two pair with nines and sevens.
Important Information
- The strength of two pairs depends on the rank of the higher pair. For example, a two pair of AATT is stronger than a two pair of JJQQ.
- Even if you have two pairs, you must always consider the possibility that your opponent has three of a kind, a straight, or a flush or better.
Examples of Term Usage
"I completed two pair on the flop, but since there are many hands that can complete a draw on the board, I need to bet to protect my hand."
