Two pair

Basic Definition

Two pair is a poker hand consisting of two different ranks, each with a pair of cards.

Specific Situation

  • If your hand is 8h8d and the board is JsJc4h, you have a two pair of jacks and eights.
  • If your hand is 9s7s and the board is 9h7cKd, you have a two pair with nines and sevens.

Important Information

  • The strength of two pairs depends on the rank of the higher pair. For example, a two pair of AhAcTsTc is stronger than a two pair of JsJcQsQc.
  • Even if you have two pairs, you must always consider the possibility that your opponent has three of a kind, a straight, or a flush or better.
