Wet board

★★Wet

Basic Definition

A wet board refers to a board configuration in poker where draws (such as straights or flushes, which are strong but incomplete hands) are more likely to form. On such a board, the chances increase for multiple players to complete strong hands.

Specific Situation

  • A flop like 8h9hTh is a typical example of a wet board because there are multiple possibilities for straight draws and flush draws.
  • When the flop is something like Js7d8c, it's a situation where strong hands like straight draws, two pairs, or sets are likely to form.

Important Information

  • On a wet board, it's often effective to increase your bet size to make your opponent pay a high price to chase their draw, as they are likely drawing.
  • On this type of board, there's a high possibility that your opponent has a completed hand, so you need to play carefully. You should be especially cautious if you receive a re-raise.

Examples of Term Usage

"I bet strongly because the flop was quite a wet board, considering the possibility that the opponent might be on a flush draw."
