Run it twice

Glossary

Run it twice

Basic Definition

Run it twice means dealing the remaining board cards two separate times after players are all-in. Each run decides half of the pot. Players have to agree to it, and the game has to allow it.

Specific Situation

  • On the flop, you are all-in with a flush draw against top pair. You agree to run it twice. The first turn and river miss, and the second run makes your flush, so you each win half of the pot.

  • If one player wins both runs, they take the whole pot.

Important Information

  • Running it twice does not change your expected value (EV). It only reduces variance: you are less likely to win or lose the whole pot.

  • Some games allow running it three times. Online, the option is usually offered automatically in cash games, not tournaments.

  • Some players always decline it. That is their right, and asking repeatedly is considered poor etiquette.

Examples of Term Usage

"We were all-in on the flop, so we ran it twice and chopped the pot."
